DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

The Department was established in the year 1968. Both Botany and Zoology Departments were merged until 1972. Later it was separated. The Department of Applied Nutrition was started during 1996-97 and it was brought under the purview of zoology Department.


The following are the courses offered by the department::
  • B.Sc.[Zoology with Botany & Chemistry]with strength 60.
  • B.Sc.[Applied Nutrition with Micro-Biology and Bio-Chemistry] with strength 36
Lab Establishment ::

The Department of Zoology has a builtup area of about 4000 Sq. feet with spacious laboratory, furniture, animal house, store room, a beautiful museum and staff room. The Zoology Department is self sufficient in possession of latest laboratory equipment, biological models, plastic moulds, bio-visual aids, hundreds of museum specimens and also a Department Library with nearly 150 books useful for +2 and UG students. Under this department, the college has two labs. One is the Inter lab and the other is the Degree lab. The Inter Lab is meant for the students of Intermediate BiPC stream.This lab accommodates about 40 students at a time for a batch. The degree lab is meant for B.Sc. I, II , III year students of C.B.Z stream. This lab also accomodates about 40 students at a time for each batch. These labs are well equipped and are guided by well trained faculty. The estimated investment in these laboratories is around 4 lakh Rupees. The labs are also specially equipped with Epidioscope, Slide Projector, Binoculars and other apparatus.


The Applied-Nutrition Lab is meant for the students of I,II & III BSc(M.B.F) stream. This lab accommodates about 18 students at a time for a batch. This lab well equipped and is guided by well trained faculty. The estimated investment in this laboratories is around 1 lakh Rupees . The lab is also equipped with Electric oven, Micro Wave Oven.

Department Library ::
The Department also maintains a library with 150 books worth of Rs. 10,500/-, useful to the students of Zoology and Applied Nutrition

BUDGET ALLOTMENT ::
The Department of Zoology has invested an amount of Rs. 3,13,057/- towards museum, bio-visual aids, models, microscopes, laboratory equipment and furniture. An amount of Rs. 94,143/- was invested towards the development of Applied Nutrition Department .

The following information is about the activities and achievements of the Staff of the department of Zoology.

  1. Sri E.Bhaskara Rao [ RETIRED ]
    • He was a member of Senate, Nagarjuna University during 1984-1986 and he became a member of the Academic Senate in 1993.
    • The Alumni association of J K C College was established in 1989 in his tenure as principal of the college.
  2. Sri. N.Koteswara Rao [ RETIRED ]
    • He was a chief warden for a period of 10 years from 1987-1997 for Kamma Hostel, Guntur, established by Philontraphists for the benefit of poor student community.
    • Presently he is working as Dean for Dr. K L P Public School, one of the sister institutes established by the Nagarjuna Educational Society.
  3. Dr. R. Ramchandra Rao [ RETIRED ]
    • He was an author for several degree level text books.
    • He was awarded Ph. D for his research work on " Some aspects of enzyme activity pattern in de-nervated muscle "
    • He was a Best Teacher Awardee by AP State Government for the year 2000 on the eve of Teachers Day.
    • He worked as principal for 2 years in Dr. K.Jayapradamba Degree College, Guntur , for which Dr. K.Sadasiva Rao is the Chairman.
  4. Sri. P.Krishnama Naidu
    • He was a member in discipline committee of the college
  5. Sri. G.Prabhakara Rao
    • Worked as N.S.S Program Officer at C.R.College, Chilakaluripet ,for 4 years.
    • Participated in "National Symposium on Aquatic Biology " at Andhra University, Waltair, from 4-05-1987 to 06-05-1987.
    • Participated in "National Seminar on Freshwater Aquaculture in India", at Nagarjuna University, from 27-12-1987 to 30-12-1987.
    • He is a member in the executive body of Alumni association , J K C College.
  6. Dr. K. Daniel
    • He was awarded Ph. D for his research work on " Some studies on behavioural aspects of cercaria of Schistosoma spindale (Montgomery,1906) with special reference to swimming, penetration and tail separation".
    • His work was strongly recommended for publication by Milton Fingerman, ( External Examiner), Prof. Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Tulane University, Louisiana (U.S.A).
    • He was qualified in SLET conducted by A P College Service Commission, Hyderabad, in 1999.
    • He has about 6 years of experience as Junior Lecturer in Department of zoology in A.P. Tribal Welfare Residential Junior College, Chintapalli, Vizag (Dt) .
