The Chemistry Department was established in 1968 under the leadership of Dr.Jasti Venkateswarlu who had long and rich experience as lecturer. Mr. P. Kotewararao M.Sc with another experienced lecturer Mr. A.Bhaskara Rao as administrator over the years the department has grown from strength to strength, begins with a humble strength of 3 in 1968 to an impressive figure of seventeen now in 2003. The dedication of the department to the academic progress of the student community . Its extra curricular, co-curricular and extension activities make it take a place of pride among the several departments of JKC College.

Bio-Chemistry was introduced in 1995 and Post Graduate course in Chemistry was introduced in 1997. Dr. J.Venkateswarlu went abroad (U.S.A) and instituted poor student aid awards an International development fund for higher education. Sri P.Sambasiva Rao was appointed as Principal., P.A.S College, PEDANANDIPADU. Sri P.Koteswara Rao is at present working as director, Vignan Educational Institutions. The department instituted an Endownment Scholorship to perpetuate the memory of Sri M.Prasad Babu a Lecturer in Chemistry department, J.K.C College, GUNTUR. Dr. Sivarama Babu, Reader in department of Chemistry was given Best Teacher Award by A.P Government during 1999-2000.

The Alumni of Dept. of Chemistry Sri Y.Anil Kumar, Smt B.Radhika, Sri N. Mala Kondaiah, Sri Dwaraka Thirumala Rao were successful in the I.P.S and working as D.I.G's and S.P's . Sri S.Subbarao, Sri B.Singaiah are in prominent positions in I.R.S. Many of our alumni are in prominent positions abroad.

The department is striving to update and mould itself to adopt the fast changing needs of the community for which it has been instituted here in JKC College, GUNTUR 35 long years back.
