BRIEF APPRAISAL OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department of English was started in 1st August, 1968.The English department of J.K.C College is the largest department with 14 U.G and 5 P.G. staff members. It has a glorious history of three and a half-decades. The department has carved a niche in the annuals of J.K.C College. The first three Principals, Sri Y.Rosayya,Dr.S.Anantham and Dr.C.N.Sastry who were eminent and famous scholars, belonged to this department. Dessiminating their knowledge and dedication, the senior members of the department contributed their best in laying firm foundation of discipline and high academic standards. The printed study material prepared by the members of the department has helped in improving the quality of education and results. The department has eight alumni of J.K.C college working as lecturers, who have been rendering their services with loving care, affection and commitment to the institution and the department.


The department has been taking keen interest in imparting language skills,Spoken English and Personality Development techniques by conducting various training programmes from time to time for the students of both U.G classes and P.G classes throughout the academic year. The dartment has been utilizing the invaluable services of the experienced lecturers likeDr.L.Radhakrishna Murthy,Sri P.Satyanarayana,Sri Y.RamaBramham, whose contribution has been indispensible over the years at the P.G level. The members of Department of the English are active participants in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like Quiz,Elocution,Music and Drama. Six members of English Department are in-charge of different committees as vice-chairmen Dr.N.Nageswara Rao is the co-ordinator for Andhra University Distance Education and Sri P.Gopichand is the regional co-ordinator for Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University, Regional Centre, J.K.C College, GUNTUR .

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The First three Principals of our college were from the Depatment of English.
    • Our Founder-Principal Sri Y.Rosayya , was a Profound scholar in English and Telugu; J.K.C.College Library and Reading room complex bear his name, was responsible for building up a rich collection of classics in our library.
    • Dr.S.Anantham , recieved his Ph.D. in Education from Michigan University,the U.S.A., was a renouned resource person for education and phonetics. He gave many talks over the radio.
    • Dr.C.N.Sastry popularly known as 'Amarendra',was a versatile literateur, Poet in English and Telugu, Short-story writer, Orator and translator for excellence.
  • In Collaboration with the department of Oriental Languages, the English Department organized a Training programme for college teachers in Liguistics and culture from 26.12.2000 to 17.1.2001. Which was sponsored by the Commissionarate of Education and A.P.S.C.Council of Higher Education.
  • A 43-day programme of Functional English Classes was organized by the Department of English as part of COHSSIP from 9.11.2001 to 21.12.2001. The members of English Department taught Communication Skills, Spoken English,Idioms,Phrasal verbs,Writing patterns,grammer,Phonetics etc. Slides and transperencies were used to make teaching effective.
  • The Department of English Organized a number of guest lectures and seminars of eminent professors and scholars from various other universities for the benifit of our P.G & U.G. students.
  • The Department has been publishing potes on prescribed texts and grammer for years,a unique feature Private Aided Colleges and no.of students on the campus and others have been benifited.
  • Dr.N.Nageswara Rao is the Assistant Co-Ordinator of Andhra University Distance Education Centre on our campus.
  • Sri P.Gopichand is the Regional Co-Ordinator for Dr B.R.Ambedkar Open University,J.K.C.Centre, on our campus.
  • Sri G.Amma Rao got a letter of appreciation from Miss A.E.Watson,Editor of OALDCE Unit, Oxford University Press,London for pointing out a number of errors and misprints in the Oxford Dictionary.
  • The members of the Department are active participants in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the college. Six members of the department are incharge of different committees as vice-chairmen.
